Biostore
Multi-modal biometric verification and identification
Alcazar Biostore
Alcazar Biostore has been used by large organisations in the financial sector since 2006 and today stores a combined total of over 25 million identities, performing thousands of enrolments and tens of thousands verifications every day.
The store is aimed at abstracting the complexities of biometric modes, biometric operations, biometric quality, enrolment and re-enrolment rules, and SDKs from the business application developer, and provides a simple, easy to understand web service interface, without the need of understanding biometric standards and proprietary formats.
Implementing a biometric store is comprised of a few, simple steps:
- Decide on your business process and technical constraints resulting from it. Granted, this might not be a simple step, but a good understanding of the risk profile of your organisation and the reasons why biometric authentication has been chosen to address some of these risks is paramount to design the correct technical solution.
- Configure the store to be aware of available biometric modes, and engines, as well as enrolment and verification rules.
- Build a client application which calls the store web services, which are simple high-level verbs such as enrol, verify, or identify. If you choose to use a client enabling framework, such as the Alcazar biometric client framework, this task is further simplified.
Biostore is implemented as .Net REST service built on .Net 8 – and can therefore easily be integrated with any business application, be that web-based applications, desktop applications, or apps on tablets.
Configuration
Once business processes have been decided on, and technical decisions have been made, Biostore needs to be configured to respond to the business and technical architecture. Most requirements can be met with straight-forward configuration, in some cases plug-ins or extension features may be required.
Alcazar offers a two-day workshop, where we digest your unique requirements, install and configure your solution, and work with your architects and developers to build any extension features which may be required. At the end of the workshop, you will have a fully functional biometric store in your QA environment, ready to receive enrolments and verifications.
Biostore Features
- High-level web service interface, supporting idioms like Enrol, Verify, Identify, or Retrieve. This allows the integrator to focus on the business use of biometric capability, and not its internal intricacies.
- Ready-made enrolment and verification profiles. For “standard” use, the biometric store arrives fully configured.
- Rich configuration choices and profiles. Biostore can be configured for virtually any biometric requirement. Multiple configuration can co-exist, and be called upon by your application through profiles.
- Universal adaptor architecture for engines. No matter which underlying biometric technology you have decided to use, Biostore comes with an adapter, which plugs into the store, ready for use. All common biometric engines are supported.
- The configuration can be held in a configuration file or in a central database, allowing for easy management and maintenance.
- Support for simultaneous multi modal biometric operations. Biostore can enrol both fingerprints and a facial image and arrive at a combined match score.
- Rich auditing subsystem. Biostore knows who has enrolled whom and when, and the reasons and circumstances of any replacement of biometric enrolments.
- Support for local and centralised biometric operation. Depending on circumstances like frequency of verifications with a business transaction, network bandwidth, response time and security requirements, the integrator may choose to perform local verification (where the enrolment is first retrieved from Biostore and held locally, and then verified multiple times during a transaction) or remote verification (where Biostore performs the verification, without exposing enrolled data to the network.
- Available as x64 .Net 8 REST service
- Deployable on Windows server, Linux, and Kubernetes containers
